Home Renovation and Staging, Lambertville NJ

This was a house renovation/home staging project in collaboration with New Leaf Properties LLC.    A once forlorn bungalow was transformed into a tidy modernized house that still reflects the tone of one of New Jersey's best antiquing towns, Lambertville, NJ.   We brought her down to stud, brought her up to code and gave her a major face lift.   This was one of my most favorite renovations to date.  The house was barely 900 sq feet so it was quite a challenge to give it character without overwhelming the space, and I think we did it!   Another successful property designed by us and sold by New Leaf Properties LLC.

When striving for the words to describe this project, I keep finding myself wanting to compare it to a fine French pastry shop.  Perhaps I think that because my client always filled her beautiful antique bowls with beautiful confections and cake plates full of treats.    Her love of antiques and soft hues was the guiding light to create these wonderfully layered spaces.  Silk velvets and custom trims in the living room, a brass ormolu French dining table, and brass detailed built-ins in the family room are some of the special details that add such sweetness to this home.

These homeowner wanted to a modern home, but wanted it to feel buoyant and unassuming.  These clients wanted to fill their home with kid friendly fabrics, joyful colors, and unique art and and accessories that are as special as their wonderful family.  One of our favorite details is the floating glass display cabinet in the kitchen--it was designed to display their young daughter's ever growing pottery collection.  This home epitomizes what family is all about which made it one of our favorite projects to work on.

Mediterranean Home

It is always an interesting challenge to make new construction home look as though it is has perched there for a century.  Here in beautiful Colts Neck, NJ, we helped our clients build a new home that had the architectural integrity of an old estate.  The goal was to create a look, both inside and out, that was Mediterranean but that did not feel "themed."  Every material in this house was carefully selected to stay on track with this goal, from roofing tiles, to bathroom tiles (which we imported from Thailand for our clients to bring and old world flair while keeping an eye on the budget).  We designed the Foyer paneling and Great Room built in to reflect Old World Woodworking, and had such a great time filling their home with furnishings and treasures that reflects our clients spirits.  One special piece of art to our clients was an antique plaster relic we found from an old church that we hung in the kitchen.  Art means so much more when it has soulful meaning to our clients and makes designing such a true joy.

Maryland Estate: grand foyer

Designing this estate was a profound experience. Every detail of this home was designed with hospitable intentions--a summer retreat for entertaining family and friends.  It's style is uninhibitedly Victorian, reflecting the charisma and  buoyancy of its owners,  My clients have such a unique joyful spirit, and together, we brought that energy and spirit into every detail of this home.    Custom stained glass windows, guest rooms with a bed and breakfast flair, and a game room with antique pine walls and custom tin ceiling are just a few of the exciting details.  It has a modern day Gatsby feel, yet despite its grandeur, has a warmth and sense of home that is as special as its owners.   This was indeed a once in a lifetime project, not only for it's design, but to have worked for such genuinely warm and vibrant people.  I thank them for having faith in me and for letting me WOW them.

My client's very first words to me were "please don't make it look like a decorator was here!"  This is what they had said in the first home that we worked on together.  When they were looking to move to this house and we walked through, the Mrs turned to me and said, "so how can we do that again but even better? " What a canvas we had here in Montclair NJ with full views of Manhattan!!!  The project entailed 6 bathroom renovations, full interior decorating, and my favorite, the kitchen.  We opened up the kitchen and created a U-shaped island-home to the constant influx of teenagers and their friends.  Although modern and edgy with its Poggenpohl cabinets and chocolate walls, it's warmth and spark comes from the traditional lighting fixtures that we had used in their former home. To me this house blends the warmth of the suburbs with the posh of the city.
